Wednesday Aug 03, 2022
Wednesday Aug 03, 2022
Hormonal imbalances can cause weight gain, migraines, insomnia, acne, loss of libido and much more. On this week's episode, we speak to the authors of Our Hormones Our Health: how to understand your hormones and transform your life about cutting edge ways to balance our hormones.
Dr. Susanne Esche-Belke and Dr. Suzann Kirschner-Brouns share new research in the study of Epigenetics which can help midlife women balance hormones and maintain a healthy lifespan. Epigenetics studies how your behaviors and the environment can affect the way your genes work. Are you drinking from plastic water bottles? What is your stress level? How much sugar do you eat? There are many factors at play.
99.9% of humans share the same DNA. It is in that small window of difference where the causes of disease may be found. We discuss how environment and behaviors may switch a gene on in one person but not another.

Black Women and Menopause with Omisade Burney Scott
Wednesday Jul 20, 2022
Wednesday Jul 20, 2022
Did you know that black and latino women enter menopause earlier and may have more intense symptoms?
Did you know black and latino women have hot flashes longer on average than non-hispanic white women?
On this week's episode, we speak to Omisade Burney Scott, host of the podcast/media platform The Black Girl's Guide to Surviving Menopause. Omisade shares her personal journey through menopause and the need for education and awareness. Omisade developed her platform because she wanted to "create[d] a space where the wildly diverse stories of different types of Black people could be held as sacred, including [her] own."
We discuss the SWAN study ( Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation) which is a multi-site longitudinal, epidemiologic study designed to examine the health of women during their middle years. We discuss the findings of the study that indicate menopause symptoms differ based on several factors including racial diversity.
It is vital that each person's journey through menopause is respected and acknowledged and we hope this episode starts an ongoing conversation with our listeners.

Women’s Health Care and Our Privacy Rights with Attorney Bethany Corbin
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
Do you know if you health care information is protected on the web? It is more important than ever to know the answer to that question.
We invited FemTech attorney Bethany Corbin this week to answer our privacy questions. Telehealth and tracking apps have become very popular in the last few years. Most brands will comply with the HIPAA guidelines provided they are partnered with a Doctor or pharmaceutical company. The grey area arises in an all pay cash situation and in that case, they may or may not be complying with federal requirements.
Wearables and other apps may be subject to FDA guidelines but at a lower Class 1 certification. This may mean that they are not subject to the same testing and accuracy requirements. It may also mean that they may be selling your information to data brokers and possibly law enforcement.
Know more about your privacy rights in the every changing telehealth and internet world.
